Blues Blast 2024 will open with two well-known local blues bands that have been keeping the blues alive in Thunder Bay for a number of years…
A real honour to have them perform at this event!
It’s not often you can catch these two bands back-to-back at the same show…

DR. BUCK & THE BLUESBANGERS
TBBS 2023 “Hwy 61 to Memphis” Blues Challenge 3rd place finalists Dr. Buck & The Bluesbangers (Ray Bukovy, Kevin Bukovy, Joe Levanto) will kick things off at 4:00pm with a 35-minute set of house-rockin’ blues.

Following that performance will be TBBS 2018 “Hwy 61 to Memphis” Blues Challenge winners The Roosters (Calum Robertson, Gary Hare, Mike Carson, Mike Schan) at 4:55pm.
THE STEPHEN HULL EXPERIENCE
2024 International Blues Challenge Band Finalist The Stephen Hull Experience hits the stage at 6:00PM. The Stephen Hull Experience placed 2nd in the band category this past January in Memphis…and Stephen Hull also won the prestigious Best Guitarist Award honours!
Pictured with TBBS President Rob Croves in Memphis during the 2024 International Blues Challenge, 25-year-old Stephen Hull and his band are excited to “kick up a fuss” in Thunder Bay with his band…it will be their debut Canadian performance! The Stephen Hull Experience have already toured in South America and Europe…and also performed on the main stage at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2023. The future of the blues is in good hands with The Stephen Hull Experience. TBBS is thrilled to have Thunder Bay as the first Canadian city to present this band!
STUDEBAKER JOHN & the Hawks
A band TBBS board of directors have had requests to bring back and now we have finally been able to made it happen!! 7:45pm will feature the return to Thunder Bay of legendary bluesman Studebaker John & the Hawks, who last played a TBBS event in 2011. With over 20 albums released and playing the blues since 1973, Studebaker John has thrilled audiences in Europe and all-over North America. A triple threat on vocals, guitar and harmonica, any Thunder Bay blues fan who missed them in 2011 will see first-hand why this band has been in demand at bars. clubs and festivals since the 1970’s.
WAYNE BAKER BROOKS
Headlining the evening at 9:30PM will be 2023 Chicago Music Award winner for Best Blues Entertainer Wayne Baker Brooks. Born and raised in Chicago and the son of legendary Hall of Fame blues performer Lonnie Brooks, Wayne has quickly carved out his own identity on the current blues scene. Growing up Wayne was a regular visitor to such historic places as Chess Studios, Checkerboard Lounge and many other Chicago blues landmarks. After performing in his father’s band, he started his own band in 1997 and has never looked back. Little known facts…Wayne wrote the book “Blues for Dummies” and also made a cameo appearance on the movie Blues Brothers 2000! Thunder Bay blues fans…prepare yourself for a blues show you will not forget!!
